Gas tax an unpopular idea
A large majority of readers strongly disagreed with the idea of raising the federal tax on gasoline at this time. Read on:
n You have got to be kidding. We truly need a break from many things with the economy the way it is headed the past year or two. Don't take this away, also. It would be devastating to everyone.
n The taxes should be lowered to stimulate the economy. John F. Kennedy proved this and Ronald Reagan followed this example. Never give these incompentent fools more money. They should not depend on public employment for subsistence. They should place their honor out of reach of all men. Give them term limits.
n The Washington Post editorial suggested that because gas prices were much lower than their record-breaking highs last summer, it would be a good time to raise federal gasoline taxes.
Why would anyone with an IQ above that of a mushroom think that is a good idea? Do they think gasoline prices will never rise again? As soon as the economy begins to recover even a little, gas prices will start jumping. If federal gas taxes are raised, our next high may be $6 a gallon.
n Are you kidding? People are losing their jobs everywhere. We need to utilize every natural resource now inside these United States until we get back on our feet.
n More robbery, more and more. The feds are on the take again; they don't they have enough stolen money yet ... excuse me, they said they lost it ... sorry.
There you have it; not a one person who sent in a comment was in favor of the idea.
However, we did receive two letters to the
editor about what a good idea it would be at this time. They will be published Monday in Our Readers Speak, as a continuation of the communty discussion on this topic.
