Great Falls Tribune lays off 6 employees
By The Associated Press - 12/04/2008
GREAT FALLS (AP) — The Great Falls Tribune laid off six employees Wednesday as the parent Gannett Co., the nation's largest newspaper company, carried out a 10 percent work force cut announced in October in response to declining revenue.
The Tribune is one of 85 daily newspapers published by Gannett, including USA Today.
Gannett has about 46,000 employees nationwide, including 159 at the Tribune after Wednesday's layoffs.
The Tribune announced the layoffs Wednesday evening in a story on its Web site. The newspaper said departing employees will get up to 26 weeks of severance pay, depending on years of service.
The newspaper said the layoffs occurred in the news, advertising,
distribution center, production and specialty publication departments.
