Blues net 2 wins in high school hockey
Nick Vanderakieft achieved a hat trick, and Jake Reid netted two goals as the Butte Blues blanked the Havre Ice Hawks 7-0 last Saturday in a high school hockey game.
Butte came out strong and controlled play throughout the game, a report from the Butte Amateur Hockey Association said.
Tanner Barry and D.J. Williamson each knocked in a goal for the Blues while a shutout was being posted by goalie Jenson Manning. He chalked up 22 saves along the way. Goal assists were by Reid, Barry and Aaron Endy.
The Blues followed the Saturday win with a 5-2 victory over the Hawks as Havre put forth a very physical effort that had begun to show in the third period of the previous night's game.
The Blues countered with speed and strength, the report said. Williamson registered a hat trick, Dunk Abbott tallied two goals and Byron Lasher scored one. Assists were by Dylan Everly, Cullan Barry, Pat Holland-Stergar, Endy, Lasher, Tanner Barry and Vanderkieft. Jake Sharon and Casey Strozzi put in good defensive efforts. Traydon Reid was another positive factor in the Butte offense, and Manning played in goal again. He got 24 saves.
The Blues high school team is coached by Jon Busby with help from assistants Jason Manning, Trevor Williams and Travis Barry. The Butte team will be home this weekend in the Butte Community Ice Center against Great Falls at 7 p.m. on Friday and 10:15 a.m. on Saturday.
