National Geographic offers Western bird guidebook
By Roger Phillips - 11/05/2008
Here's an ironic twist: National Geographic is famous for the great photography in its
magazines, but you won't find a single photo in its bird book.
Huh? Don't fret, there are photo-quality illustrations that will help you identify bird species. It includes 750 regular species, 100 "casual and
accidental" birds and 55 rarities.
The illustrations show male and female adults and juveniles in flying, standing and perching poses.
The book is a Western version of National Geographic's popular field guide to North American birds and focuses on those birds west of the Rocky Mountains.
It is well designed so people can quickly identify the family the bird belongs to and find that family of birds in the book.
