Family and friends will gather Oct. 27 in Leaven-worth, Kan., to celebrate the 90th birthday of Butte native, Sister Virginia Flanick.
The youngest of nine children, Sister Virginia is the daughter of the late Matthew and Ann Flanick, residents of East Butte. She attended Holy Savior School and graduated from Girls Central High School.
After high school, she joined the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth and earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth. She was a first grade teacher for 50 years — teaching in Kansas, Montana, California, and Nebraska. She then partici-pated in parish outreach ministry and is currently an assistant and companion for SCLs in need.
A loyal sports fan, Sister Virginia roots for the Kansas City Chiefs, the University of Kansas, and the University of Notre Dame. She is also an avid reader.
Among her Butte relatives are a sister, Rose Frankovich and her children, Mary Ann and Michael; sister-in-law, Lola Flanick; and the Flanick, Pelletier, Winston and Holter families.
