Western spikers drop two

SPOKANE — The University of Montana Western volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Whitworth Invitational Saturday.
Western fell to Menlo College in three games before taking a game from undefeated Lewis-Clark State.
The Bulldogs finished the two-day tournament 1-3 and placed fourth out of five teams.
Lewis-Clark State went 4-0, while Menlo went 3-1, host Whitworth College went 2-2 and Whitman College went 0-4.
Menlo College 3, Montana Western 0 Deborah Bekowies pounded 18 kills to lead the way for the Menlo, Calif., school to the 25-23, 25-15, 25-15 win.
Menlo outkilled the Bulldogs 38-31. Theresa Bennett and Courtney Nicholls each smacked seven kills to pace Western. Elise Davis and Valerie Thoms each added six.
Bennett also collected 11 digs, while Maria Peterson dished out 25 assists.

Lewis-Clark State 3, Montana Western 1 Anile Clemente had a big match, killing 16 and digging 12 as the 11-0 Warriors turned back Western 25-14, 24-13, 20-25, 25-18.
Bennett killed 14 to lead the Bulldogs, who also got seven kills from Davis and six from Nicholls.
Peterson dished out 32 assists and was one of three Bulldogs in double digits with 18 digs. Kiley Myers collected 14 digs, while Valerie Thoms collected 13.
