Romantic travel tips from Men's Health
By Sally Dadisman - 08/30/2008
Sally Dadisman McClatchy-Tribune News Service IN LOVE, WILL TRAVEL Being creative can add spice to your relationship. The August issue of Men's Health offers out-of-the-box ideas for romantic getaways your lady will appreciate it. Sometimes the locale doesn't even matter, as long as the itinerary is all about you. Here are the mag's four suggestions:
A road trip. Be spontaneous; don't plan every detail of this one out. Instead pick some locales within a half-day's drive—vineyards if you're in California, lakes in New York, for instance. Once you find your final destination, get a room, preferably one at a nice B&B over a large hotel chain. A GPS would come in handy for this venture.
Mix business with pleasure. If you two are always off jet-setting to the next place your job is taking you, maybe you should consider some company. Plan for her to spend a spa day while you're in meetings, and then spend the nights together. Don't, however, do this every year as a cheap substitute for a real getaway.
The stay-cation. This can help spice it up without having to even go anywhere. Get a room at a local hotel (make it nice) somewhere that is free of cues that might cause stress and a little less boring than your same-old bedroom.
Go International. If the U.S. just isn't cutting it, then think outside our borders. Go to travel sites like smartertravel.com and cfares.com for great last-minute travel deals. Also, consider going outside of Europe, where the Euro conversion rate isn't so good for those of us packing dollars. Instead, try the Czech Republic, or even Montreal.
FUN FACT Men's Health surveyed 240 women on the vacation experiences that turn them on the most, one being "not my thing!" and 10 having women say "let's start packing!" Traveling only with him won with a 9, while strolling the Nascar infield is, shockingly, not high on a woman's travel wish-list.
A LITTLE HELP FROM YOUR FRIEND She's seen her ex-husband begin building a soccer team with his new partner (considered by many to be one of the sexiest women alive) and hasn't quite had the box-office success we're sure she dreamed of, but, nevertheless, Jennifer Aniston remains happy. She spills her happiness secrets in the September issue of Good Housekeeping.
Make your home your personal sanctuary.
Take care of yourself from head to toe (there are non-evil types of exercise out there! Aniston is a big fan of yoga)
Splurge! Let go of your diet or budget for a day. Pick-me-up gifts can brighten anyone's mood.
Value your friends. They'll be there for you, good times and bad, and you should do the same for them.
