Benefit fund setfor burn victim A benefit fund has been established for 16-year-old Sam Brown, son of Randy Brown and Roberta Brown.

The Butte teen is in the University Hospital in Salt Lake City being treated for third degree burns covering 75 percent of his body, according to a news release.

Brown was burned following an explosion in his garage on Aug. 27 while he was working on his motorcycle.

Meetings set on proposed elk plan A series of meetings are planned to discuss proposed changes to the state's Elk Management Plan in several west-central Montana hunting districts.

Hosted by the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, all the meetings start at 7 p.m. and will be held at the following places:

  • Sept. 2, Anaconda Ancient Order of Hibernians Hall

  • Sept. 3, Deer Lodge Community Center

  • Sept. 4, Hall Café.

    Class of 1943 seeks members The Butte High and Butte Central classes of 1943 will have their 65th reunion dinner Saturday, Sept. 13, at the War Bonnet Hotel.

    The reunion committee, however, has been unable to locate a number of classmates, including former Butte High students Lyle Chapman, Bob Darragh, Jean (Dineen) Caton, Bernard Doherty, Sylvia (Ellison) Ray, Jean (Carkeek) Bigley, Effie May Grigg, A. William Hoard, Pauline (Murphy) Hitt, Bill Maxson, Helen Louise Sweet, Dorothy (White) Rice, and Samuel Wyrouck.

    Butte Central students include Mildred (Boyle) Moriarity, Dorothy (Emery) Efferty, and Margaret (Dougherty) Julian.

    Archaeological dig seeking volunteers BOZEMAN — Are you interested in archaeology and the history of Bannack State Park? Do you like to work the soil and get your hands dirty?

    If so, Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks is looking for volunteers to help dig into archeological history at Bannack State Park Sept. 3-7.

    Join noted historic archeologist Dan Hall of Missoula to assist with professional historic archeological excavation at the Meade Hotel. Previous work at the site has uncovered buttons, cufflinks, trade beads, medicine, wine and beer bottles, elaborate ceramics, a woman's garter, a Winchester shell, and a variety of other items.

    The work will take place daily between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

    Those interested in volunteering should call Cathy Speich, Bannack Association President, at 683-4520. Volunteers should bring a hat, sunscreen, plenty of water, lunch, snacks and sturdy shoes.
