Letter: Obama offers the best hope for a country at a crossroads
By Dan O'Neill V - 08/28/2008
I have signed up to be a part of Barack Obama's presidential campaign in Montana and I am writing today to share with you the facts that I have found important in my decision-making.
John McCain and the Republican Party have ignored the values of the common Montanan and the people of America. They may have begun with good intentions, but they are so far removed from reality and the daily life of working and middle-class Americans that their ability to make decisions based on forward thinking and deductive reasoning has vanished.
America is at a major intersection of political, economic and social crossroads that will forever affect our lives and the lives of future generations. We can continue to engineer a network based on left and right, forward and backward, or we can re-tool and build a new model and encompass "roundabout" solutions for change.
The foreign policy adopted by President Bush and the Republicans has eroded America's credibility and deteriorated the trust that world leaders have placed in the United States. The Republicans have focused on building a defense network that encourages threats and acts of violence by foreign militia. Obama will build relationships with world leaders based on trust, diplomacy and international partnerships.
I believe that America has already begun to change, and that Obama is the reason for that change. He has a plan based on the fundamental values that we as humans, Montanans and Americans all share. I would invite you to learn more about Obama and about the campaign I'm running with him, but if you look inside, you will find out that you are the hope for America.
Today I stand united, I stand for change, and I stand for Barack Obama.
