A Butte High School teacher remained in the intensive care unit of St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula Tuesday, following a boating crash over the weekend at Georgetown Lake.
Officials with St. Patrick confirmed that Curtis Smith was being treated in ICU.
The hospital wouldn’t release Smith’s condition to The Montana Standard saying the information was private.
Smith was one of three people involved in the boating accident about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks reported Monday that a boat ran aground and struck a tree just off the shore. The three people in the boat were transported to Community Hospital in Anaconda.
State officials declined to release the names of the victims, because the crash remains under investigation.
However, sources corroborated the identities of the other two victims as Scott Lewis and Bob Johnston, both of Butte. Lewis and Johnston have been treated and released from the hospital, sources say.
The crash happened near a private dock between Rainbow Point and Philipsburg Bay. Game warden Dan Burns said there were no lights on the shore and it was dark at the time of the crash.
Game warden Terry Althaus said the investigation may be completed by next week.
The boat was described as a 20-foot, fiberglass Baja motorboat.
Butte public schools’ Superintendent Chuck Uggetti on Tuesday wished Smith a speedy recovery.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family,” Uggetti said.
