Anaconda school district employee complying with rule
By The Standard Staff - 07/17/2008
ANACONDA — A school district employee who was told to either move to the community or lose his job has chosen to keep his position.
Don Berryman, special services director, has signed a contract allowing him 60 days to move to the Anaconda community.
“I have rented a place up at Georgetown Lake,” Berryman said. “If I wanted to keep my job I didn’t have a choice.” The school district has a policy requiring employees to move within the Anaconda community, which by the district’s definition includes Georgetown Lake, within 60 days of being hired.
Berryman’s living situation became an issue this spring when his contract was up for renewal, and school board members considered voting against rehiring him because he had not moved to Anaconda.
He currently lives in the Beef Trail area, southwest of Butte, but plans to move to Anaconda within the timeframe allowed.
