Chelsea Clinton speaks to tribal leaders council

BILLINGS (AP) — Chelsea Clinton said Thursday that her mother would offer American Indians better health care, education and economic development if elected president.

The former first daughter answered questions for about an hour at the Montana-Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council office in Billings. About 30 people attended.

On the economy, she said Hillary Rodham Clinton would restore the Community Development Block Grants used by former President Bill Clinton to spur local economic growth in the 1990s.

She said her mother also plans to dismantle No Child Left Behind, a proficiency-test driven program that critics say hamstrings schools in impoverished areas. Hillary Clinton would replace that program with one that enrolls children at earlier ages and develops broad-based curriculum.

In addition, Chelsea Clinton said her mother would boost funding for Indian Health Service programs and get more doctors and nurses on reservations.

The former first daughter is scheduled to speak Friday morning at the Billings headquarters of the Yellowstone County Council on Aging. The event is open to the public.

The campaigns of Hillary Clinton and her rival, Barack Obama, have recently ramped up efforts to woo American Indians, a demographic that a spokesman for the state party called ``a huge part of our Democratic tent.'' ``The Native American Caucus in the state Legislature is pretty good sized, obviously influential and 100 percent Democratic,'' spokesman Kevin O'Brien said.

Montana's June 3 primary is the last in the nation along with South Dakota's.

At stake in Montana are 16 pledged delegates and eight superdelegates, three of whom are committed to Obama while a fourth was forced to retract her Obama endorsement due to party rules.

America has been suffering economically for about the past 6 yrs. due to the Iraqi War. Which we should not have been involved with in the first place. The rich keep getting richer and the poor poorer. The recession that we are in right now could easily become a depression. In which many will suffer including the funding for our public services. I have family members that distinctly remember the pain and misery of the 1930's depression era. Many other countries suffered their own depression. A few of those countries took on destructive leaders out of despair, which lead us to World War II. Wake up America !!! We could be on the brink of World War III if we don't get the proper change that America needs.

Okay democrats, if you want to be now and in the future, any kind of a choice for the American People, then you need to rethink your priorities. You have Barack Obama who has been accepting council from a preacher for the last 20 yrs. who is a fanatic. This want~to~be preacher was quoted as saying "The Iraqi War is being fought to help Israel", and "G__ D___ America". This preacher considers himself a christian. Under what fundamental teachings would that be ? The christians in America have always been encouraged to support Israel. This is what America stand for now ? The last i remember, our constitution was still intact. If our forefathers could see what they fought and died for, they would be disgraced and ashamed. Barack Obama doesn't have the experience necessary to be a president, nor do i believe he is promoting the real change that America is in desperate need of. Barack Obama is at best a main~stream media show.

Hillary Clinton on the other hand has the experience to be a good president starting day one. She is equipped with all of the necessary ideal's for great change. If the democrats don't get behind their best candidate, who has the eperience and the moral background to become president. The Democratic Party will continue to keep losing more and more of their support of the American People, until one day they just become a memory.

Obama is a great orator and his two words of HOPE and CHANGE can bring a crowd to a frenzy - however I felt that he was just going through the motions for the last three primaries - and was more focused on the general election and by just attending his own rally assumed our votes - sorry Senator I AM FROM MONTANA - you do not dismiss me and you will have to earn my vote - Change - old style Washington DC politicans - yet accept the endorsements of the same - yesterday Senator Alice Palmer of Illinois came forth and spoke about his old Washington DC politics in Illinois - and at the end of the day - when I tried to recall what he had said I came up with NOTHING just words.

On the other hand, Senator Clinton was warm, compassionate and sincere and gave solid solutions to our questions about healthcare, student loans, family owned farms and the economy to name a few.

HOPE - well I consider that when Brad Pitt and Bill Clinton was in New Orleans giving that city hope and support for reconstruction and life - Hillary attended a rally there a little later for the same purpose EVEN THOUGH THE COMMUNITY HAD NOT GIVEN HER THEIR VOTES - Obama was too busy with his campaign to attend - just another Washington DC politican???

And I still have a problem with the Pastor - after 20 years - unaware of his viewpoints - I would not want someone in the White House that might be unaware of Iran, Russia, China or N. Korea - let alone his association with Ayers, Rezko, Pastor Wright and now Rev. Pfleger - how many more are there?

I know Montana polls show Obama ahead - but if my fellow citizens of Montana would just research and study the issues and results like I have you would give the only experienced candidate with the fight, vision, plans and the ability to lead us forward the popular vote so that she can take it to the convention and fight for all of us.
