So like it or not under the Bush Tax cuts lowed the taxes of anyone that actually paid taxes and eliminated the tax burden altogether for some in the lowest income bracket. What’s unfair about that? Before you start typing away wait…It get’s better.

It’s also a fact that the Bush Tax cuts shifted more of the tax burden on to the wealthy (those would be the millionaires you were talking about Goldie). It did so by increasing the percentage of the total tax bill that the top wage earners pay, while decreasing the overall tax bill of the lower wage earners.

So you look at the breakdown of who actually pays the taxes and you see that the top 50% of the wage earners pays over 96% of the federal income taxes, which leaves the bottom 50% of wage earners to pay less than 4% of the federal income taxes (fyi the bottom 10% actually don’t pay anything and yet many of them still get a “refund”).

So you see why I have a hard time taking some Democratic Presidential candidates seriously when they pander to uniformed voters (see Goldie’s comment below). John Edwards has said, "It's time to restore fairness to a tax code that has been driven badly out of whack." Hillary Clinton laments that "middle-class and working families are paying a much higher percentage of their income [in taxes]." Then they go one about rolling back the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy.

One more fun Bush Tax Cut fact - It also resulted in the most tax revenues ever collected in the history of the country, once again proving that lowering taxes grows the economy and increases tax revenues (Darn you Bush!).

This is where people need to wake up. In last Wednesday’s debate when it was pointed out to Sen. Obama that on the matter of capital-gains taxes in the past, when the rate dropped, revenues increased. And in the 1980s, when the tax was increased, revenues went down.

“So why raise it at all,” Gibson asked Obama, “especially given the fact that 100 million people in this country own stock and would be affected?”

Sen. Obama’s response was, “I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness…”

My response to the television, “Huh?”

He went on to use some extreme example of a hedge fund as a way to justify almost doubling the capital-gains tax and explained how he would use the taxes to fund universal health care (see my previous post regarding our ability to afford socialized medicine). The fact that he’d have less tax payer money to work and not more didn’t seem to faze him one bit because he was doing it out of “fairness”.

So he’s saying if he becomes President and has to choose between a.) keeping the capital gains tax at 15% and increasing tax revenues or b.) raising the capital gains tax to 28% and decreasing tax revenues, that he would choose to decrease tax revenues out of fairness. Again, all I can muster is, huh?

" To anyone that points to universal healthcare as being something the federal government should pursue please keep in mind that we currently have a $9 trillion deficit and when you factor in the unfunded social programs that the federal government has already committed to pay (i.e. Social Security and Medicare), this number climbs to $53 trillion.

According to the latest Social Security and Medicare Trustees report in the year 2019 the Medicaid trust fund becomes insolvent. Only an immediate 122 percent increase in Medicare taxes can prevent or delay this. Social Security on the other hand will begin to run short in 2017, but won’t become insolvent until 2041. Only an immediate 26 percent increase in Social Security taxes can prevent or possibly delay this. Every year these are delayed means even more extreme tax hikes will be necessary in the future. It’s funny how none of the politicians bring this up, huh?

Government, on every level, should subscribe to the “yellow pages principle”. If you can open a phone book and find a private business offering that good or service, then the government has no business using tax payers’ dollars to offer the same good or service.

Doctors spend tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars to achieve their MD status and then tens of thousands more for malpractice insurance each month they are working. Where does a patient get the "right" to tell the MD that they can't charge whatever they want to, or even refuse to see them??

We seem to be gravitating toward a system of socialized medicine. Some say that's great, but looking at our Military/VA medical system should be a wakeup call for those in support of the socialized system. The Veteran's hospitals make news continually with their sub-standard services, conditions and treatments.

The Canadian Socialized medical system is also a prime example of why not to socialize our medical system. In 2005 there were more CT machines in Montana than in all of the Providence of Saskatchewan. Why? Because gov. allocations said that's all the needed. Patients had to wait up to 6 months for a CT scan. Is that what you people want??

Furthermore, where do you suppose the funding for this socialized medicine will come from? It will come from much higher TAXES. You cry that the wealthy don't pay taxes, so who do you think will pay for it, those without any money??

One solution to high health care prices is not socializing health care. The answer is to do away with senseless litigation so the MD doesn't have to spend upwards of $30,000.00 per month on malpractice insurance. That money wasted on insurance HAS to be passed on to the patient or the MD can't keep afford to work. MD's have dedicated 8-12 years of their lives to learning to take care of patients. They deserve to be compensated for their dedication, but they don't deserve to be sued for no reason. "

Cops assumed they were just going to jump me and continue the robbery so that they could get more dope. Cops didn't even arrest them that night even though we had a license plate# and a neighbor knew the name of the girl (she ran when I looked in the other room). In the end, the cops told me that they ran out of fear of the gun. Did it save me? I think so. Would I have had the guts to use it? Don't know... I honestly do pray everynight that it never happens again! What I do know is that I still have trouble sleeping when I hear noises at night. I compulsivly check locked doors and will worry about someone doing that again! I don't really care about the politics... Rest assured, whoever gets elected will screw us all in one way or another... Big companies give them millions to run for a reason, they want something in return.

My opinion is that people have the right to choose which candidate they wish to support. That is what a democracy should be about. "Assault" weapons are just that, they aren't used for sport, aren't used for recreation--they are used for harming people. Are they necessary? The right to bear arms has been, and most likely always will be, part of our Constitution, but there certainly is a climate for change, and to adopt safe or logical (common sense) solutions for such an issue certainly isn't a bad thing.
