Carroll women shine, men fall
Fuzesy scores 16 in Saints’ 61-59 win over Westmont, Calif.

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) — The Carroll College women’s basketball team has advanced to the second round of the NAIA national tournament, with a 61-59 win over Westmont Wednesday afternoon.
All-American Jolene Fuzesy scored 16 points and Elly Bruursema added 13 for the Saints, who also got 13 rebounds from Sara Meyer.
Carroll used a 13-6 run to rally from a 51-46 deficit with about seven minutes to play, to take a 59-57 lead with just under four minutes remaining.
Ali Mooty of Westmont made a basket to tie the score at 59.
Meyer and Hannah Heidenreich each made 1-of-2 free throws late in the game for Carroll and Westmont missed two shots in the final 10 seconds.
Carroll meets Harris-Stowe in a second round game on Friday at 9:45 a.m. MDT.
