Letter: Moose contact lenses a better investment
By The Standard Staff - 01/23/2008
I read with some interest the letter protesting the treatment of stray dogs and cats in our community. Does the word “stray” convey the idea that these animals are not owned or controlled by some responsible person? If they are among us only to foul our lawns and flower beds, to tip our garbage cans and to serenade us with yowls and barking into the wee hours, I would question why such presence is tolerated at all.
I am sure there are those among us who would gladly pony up 20 bucks a year for a mill levy to provide deluxe accommodations for every flea-bitten, fur-bearing denizen of our back streets and alleys. But not me! I would rather have chipped in for contact lenses or laser surgery for the visually challenged moose, executed for displaying displeasure at people rumbling through its living room.
Be real, people. If nobody wants to pet it or eat it — get rid of it.
