Senior Citizens

Senior citizens’ menu announced The Belmont Center for Senior Citizens, 615 E. Mercury St., serves lunches during the week.

The center asks that people planning to have lunch call the office at 723-7773 by 9 a.m. Meals cost $4.25 each, but any donation is acceptable.

Salad bar is offered at 11:45 a.m. Mondays and Fridays. Meals also may be delivered to senior citizen shut-ins upon referral by a doctor or social service agency. Free, round trip bus service is available.

Monday, May 28 — Closed for Memorial Day.

Tuesday, May 29 — Honey pecan chicken, bacon potato fritters, pudding, wafer.

Wednesday, May 30 — Soup, chicken salad with tomato, carrot and celery sticks, pickled beets, muffin and fruit.

Thursday, May 31 — Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, seven layer salad, dinner roll, pistachio salad with fruit.

Senior activities are announced The Belmont center will offer the following activities, except on holidays:

  • Caregivers Support Group meets every other Tuesday 2 to 3:30 p.m.

  • A creative writing group meets Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

  • Bingo is offered after lunch on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; pinochle at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.

  • The foot clinic is $10; call the center at 723-7773 for schedule.

  • Belmont Senior Center will provide rides to doctors appointments for $5 a round trip and $3 one way. Call a day ahead, 723-7773.

  • Also, the center will take seniors to Wal-Mart on Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. A free ride leaves the center after lunch at 1 p.m. Tuesday to go to Safeway.

  • Blood pressure clnics are Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon through the summer.

  • A free blood pressure clinic is offered Thursdays from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Marquis Vintage Suites, 300 Mount Highland Dr. Call 494-0083 for more information.
