UPDATED St. Paddy's Day Events

Butte, Anaconda ready for St. Pat’s celebration

Following is the list of events in the Butte and Anaconda area planned in conjunction with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

The list is subject to change:

THURSDAY, MARCH 15

— Pipe and Drum Band of the Edmonton Police Service annual auction starts at 7 p.m. at the Butte Depot, 818 S. Arizona St. The band performs at 8:15 p.m. and the live auction begins at 9 p.m. Live music follows with the band, Murphy’s Law. Proceeds help pay for the band’s appearances in Butte on St. Pat’s and July 4.

— Kevin Lowney’s band, Anaconda Road, performs an evening of Celtic and Italian music at the newly opened wine bar, Rokz, 27 N. Main St., above the Columbian Garden Espresso cafe. The performance will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 15. Call 782-6489 for details.

— Butte Daredevils play the Yakama Sun Kings at 7:15 p.m. in the Butte Civic Center.

FRIDAY, MARCH 16

— Leprechaun Luncheon, formerly called the Piper Luncheon, begins at noon in the Elks Lodge, Galena and Montana. Cost is $6.50 for the buffet lunch. Entertainment by the John Hamilton and the Great Scots Bagpipe Group, Copper Cloggers, Anaconda Pipers and others. Reservations suggested for the buffet lunch; call 490-6655 or 782-3278.

— Crowning of St. Urho’s starts at 4 p.m. at Cinz bar, 301 E. Mercury St., telephone 782-3977. Big Dog Karaoke at 9 p.m.

— The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick will have their 99th annual banquet and gathering Friday, March 16, at the Maroon Activity Center, 550 E. Mercury. Bill Joyce is the master of ceremonies, and guest speaker is Pat Schulte. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m., and dinner is at 7. Tickets are $20 and are available at Cavanaugh’s County Celtic, the MAC, H&R Block, or members of the Friendly Sons.

— Butte Daredevils play the Great Falls Explorers at 7:15 p.m. in the Butte Civic Center.

— Shillelagh Shindig, McQueen Athletic Club, 3250 Hecla, starts at 10 p.m.

SATURDAY, MARCH 17

— The Ancient Order of Hibernians Mass, St. Patrick Church, 8 a.m.

— The annual parade begins at 11 a.m. from Emma Park on Silver Street, and proceeds north on Wyoming, west of Granite and south on Montana Street. Grand marshals are Sister Mary Jo McDonald and her co-litigants in the lawsuit that resulted in Butte-Silver Bow gaining control of the water company and Silver Lake in 1997. Co-litigants are Janet Lindh, Jim McDonald, Dan Dolan of Walkerville and Virginia Walker. Attorney was Jim Goetz of Bozeman. Parade lineup begins at 9 a.m. with all units in place by 10:15 a.m.

— In Anaconda, the parade, featuring the Washer Women, Hibernian Pipes and Drums, floats and politicians, starts at 2 p.m. Call 563-2400 for details.

— The 10th annual “Handing Down the Heritage,” a traditional St. Patrick’s Day celebration, begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 17, in the Butte Civic Center, sponsored by the Montana Gaelic Cultural Society. Featured will be Butte’s own Dublin Gulch and the Tiernan Irish Dancers. Special performances are by the Edmonton Police Service Pipes and Drums, the Helena youth band McAllydandy. Corned beef and cabbage will be available. Admission is $10 per person, with children 12 and under admitted for free. For details, call Tom or Cindy Powers at 494-1203.

Noon — Lunch with Edmonton Bagpipers at the Red Lion Hotel, 2100 Cornell. Reservations recommended; call the Red Lion 494-7800

2 p.m. — Vintage Suites, 300 Mount Highland Dr.

2:30 p.m. — Waterford Assisted Living, 3701 Elizabeth Warren

3 p.m. — Crest and Evergreen Nursing Homes

3:30 p.m. — Butte Plaza Mall, 3100 Harrison Ave.

5 p.m. — Pre-Daredevil Game steak feed at the Depot, 818 S. Arizona. For Information, call the Depot 782-2102

6:30 p.m. — Butte Daredevil Game, 1340 Harrison Ave. Tickets available at the Butte Civic Center, 497-6401.

Saturday, March 17

11 a.m. — Pipers will march in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Uptown Butte. Then, they’ll perform throughout the day:

1 p.m. — Gold Rush Casino, 22 W. Galena

2:30 p.m. — The Depot, 818 S. Arizona

4 p.m. — Sam’s Place, 905 N. Excelsior

5:15 p.m. — Joker’s Wild-Chef’s Garden, 1201 S. Montana St.

6:30 p.m. — The Deluxe, 823 E. Front

8:20 p.m. — Handing Down the Heritage, Civic Center, 1340 Harrison Ave. Tickets, $10 adults, kids are free, available at the door.

9:30 p.m. — McQueen Athletic Club, 3250 Hecla

11 p.m. — Red Lion Hotel, 2100 Cornell
