Essay contest winners named

Eight students from local schools were named winners in the first 2007 MSE engineering essay contest.
They were selected from the 110 students who submitted essays on the topic of “If I were an engineer, I would invent, design, or improve … ” The winners and their topics follow: Fourth to sixth grade:
Connor Schulte, first, “Hovercraft to Clean Water Pollution”
Richard Northey Tretheway III, second, “Safer, More Efficient Automobile”
Tyce Doherty, third, “Hot Water Highways” Seventh and eighth grade:
Zack Stewart, first, “Beeping Remote”
Francesca Miller, second, “Robotic Lawn Mower”
Stephanie Conrad, third, “Eyeglasses with Computer Built-in” Ninth through 12th:
Brady Stewart, first, “Making Vehicles Safer”
Julie Heck, second, “Environmentally Friendly Fuel” Winners will receive a certificate and a cash award.
In celebration of Engineers Week, MSE Technology Applications Inc. of Butte spearheaded the contest to promote education and encourage youngsters to pursue careers in engineering and science, a spokesman said.
