Visitor restrictions
A respiratory virus discovered in the Butte area has forced St. James Healthcare to put a temporary restriction on visitors to the hospital.
People showing symptoms of a Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) will be restricted from visiting patients at the hospital. People with an upper respiratory infection, cough or fever, and children under 12 years old will not be allowed to visit patients at the facility.
RSV is spread through contact with secretions and droplets from coughing and sneezing. Persons with a mild form of the disease may transmit the infection to a patient who could become seriously ill. During this temporary restriction, families and friends are encouraged to send a card or to telephone the patient rather than coming to the hospital to visit.
Hospital officials plan to monitor the situation closely and the public will be advised when this visitor restriction is no longer in effect.
